This Privacy Policy applies to the online practices of eCYBERMISSION.

Personally Identifiable Information

Students

eCYBERMISSION does not collect any personally identifiable information from student users* (i.e., users under 21). If it is learned that any personally identifiable information has been collected or posted on the site, without parental consent, that information will be deleted from the site's database as quickly as practical. The site only identifies students through a user ID. Gender and date of birth are collected at registration for demographic and security purposes. Only authorized eCYBERMISSION staff can access this information.

We may respond to a student's one-time e-mail request for information (such as forgotten password, or information about the competition). In such instances, we will collect the student's e-mail address and then delete such contact information from our records after responding.

* If a team is classified as a potential winner in the competition it will be necessary, for award and validation purposes, to collect personal information on student users, including full name, social security number, mailing address, phone number and birth date. Social security numbers are used to purchase a savings bond for the student. Students who do not provide correct and complete information are seen as refusing to comply with the rules and regulations of the competition and are forfeiting their claim to an award.

Team Advisor

When a Team Advisor registers with eCYBERMISSION we collect personally identifiable information about the Team Advisor. Team Advisors must be age 21 or over and affiliated with an educational or youth-related organization (i.e., public or private school, home school, scouting organization, boys and girls club, etc.) Personal information is collected about Team Advisors for the purposes of administering the competition and communicating with the Team Advisor. Team Advisors will occasionally receive information about the competition via e-mail. Team Advisors will be encouraged to share the information with the student team members.

If a Team Advisor's team is identified as a potentially winning team, then the Team Advisor will have to provide the validation information. Team Advisors who do not provide correct and complete information are seen as refusing to comply with the rules and regulations of the competition and are forfeiting their claim to an award.

From time to time, we may remove a Team Advisor from our e-mail list or mailing list.

Volunteers (Cyber Guide, Ambassador, Judge)

When registering to participate as one of the eCYBERMISSION volunteer roles such as a Cyber Guide, Ambassador or Judge, personal information collected will be used to document the volunteer’s identity and credentials and to determine their eligibility. Failure to provide the requested information may preclude a volunteer from participating as a Cyber Guide, Ambassador, or Judge in the competition.

Disclosure

We do not disclose information on our users concerning individual visits to eCYBERMISSION or information that users give us such as name, address, date of birth, email address or telephone number, to outside organizations, except for organizations that work on the eCYBERMISSION program. In that case, such information is used only for purposes related to the eCYBERMISSION competition and program administration. We may disclose such user information in order to comply with the law and regulatory authorities, in response to legal process, such as a court order or subpoena, or in special cases such as physical threat to users or others.

Tell-A-Team Member

When a user (student or Team Advisor) creates an eCYBERMISSION team, the user may choose to enter e-mail addresses of other team members in order for eCYBERMISSION to send a notice that informs them that the team has been created and provides log-in information.

Automatically-Collected or Stored Information

For each visitor to our web site, certain information, such as identifying information from your Internet Service Provider and web browser, is collected automatically. We use this information to help diagnose problems with our server, to administer our web site, to ensure system security, and to gather broad demographic information.

Cookie Use Notice

On a limited number of its web pages, the web site employs "cookies" to provide better service to its users. The web site does not use cookies to collect any personally identifying information from users or to track user activities beyond our web site. The web site does not maintain copies of cookies on our web site after you leave our web site. Cookies are small pieces of temporary data that are exchanged between a web site and a user's computer which enable a "session," or "dialogue," to be established between the two machines. With the session established, the web site is able to tailor its responses (i.e., identify and provide you with the information you want) and help you traverse our web pages in the most efficient and effective manner possible. The session is often broken when the web site's server does not receive further requests from the user's computer or when the user exits the browser. The web site limits its use of cookies to "session cookies," types of cookies that are temporarily stored in the user computer's memory. Session cookies are normally deleted from a user's computer when the user logs off the computer or the user exits the browser.
