Mission Mentor Overview

Mission Mentors – Guide, Support, Advise

Mission Mentors are STEM professionals who volunteer with eCYBERMISSION to guide and support teams as they complete their projects. These volunteers often have expertise in fields such as chemistry, computer science, engineering, and medicine. Mission Mentors are available to teams and can offer expertise and guidance for teams as they complete their Mission Folder.

Connecting with Mission Mentors

Teams can connect with Mission Mentors in a variety of ways.

1. Team Chats

Team Chats are 30-minute, 1-on-1 mentoring sessions for teams to ask questions and get help with their project from a Mission Mentor. Team Advisors may request a Team Chat by completing a form. The link to the form is located on the Team Advisor Home Page and is also provided in the Team Advisor newsletter. Team Chats are scheduled based on Mission Mentor availability and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. All Team Chats are facilitated by an eCYBERMISSION staff member and are recorded. Team Advisors are required to attend along with all students on the team. To request a Team Chat, click here.

2. Classroom Live Chats

Classroom Live Chats are 20-minute or 30-minute Zoom presentations during which an eCYBERMISSION staff member and Mission Mentor introduce STEM topics and answer questions from students in the class. Classroom Live Chats are intended for teachers whose entire class is participating in the eCYBERMISSION competition and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Classroom Live Chats are scheduled based on Mission Mentor availability. Team Advisors are required to attend the entire scheduled Classroom Live Chat. To request a Classroom Live Chat, click here.

3. Mission Mentor Live Chats

Mission Mentor Live Chats are available throughout the year to anyone participating in the eCYBERMISSION competition. There is no sign-up required to join a Mission Mentor Live Chat! Mission Mentor Live Chats take place over Zoom. For the Mission Mentor Live Chat schedule, click here.

4. Mission Mentor Profiles – Coming Soon

Mission Mentor Profiles highlight the education, experience, and expertise of participating mentors, helping students and Team Advisors better understand the knowledge available to help them complete their projects. Mission Mentor Profiles may be viewed in a document linked on the Team Advisor Home Page, in the monthly Team Advisor newsletter, and on eCYBERMISSION social media.

5. Mission Mentor Recorded Interviews – Coming Soon

Mission Mentor Recorded Interviews are interviews with mentors learning about their STEM career pathway including their education and profession. Interviews may be viewed on the eCYBERMISSION YouTube channel, highlighted in the Team Advisor monthly newsletter, and shared on eCYBERMISSION social media.

6. Message Board

After completing registration, students and Team Advisors can access the online Message Board on their home pages after logging into the eCYBERMISSION website. The Message Board allows students and Team Advisors to post messages and ask questions to Mission Mentors about their projects.

Mission Mentor Requirements

  • A strong background in a STEM discipline
  • A desire to help guide and assist students
  • A satisfactory background check, conducted by eCYBERMISSION
  • Age of 18 years or older

Mission Mentors are active from August to February. They may additionally volunteer as Ambassadors or Virtual Judges. For anyone interested in volunteering as a Mission Mentor, click here to register.
